Dire Straits’ Money for Nothing is a strong introduction to the band, bringing together some of their best-known songs from the late 1970s and 1980s. “Sultans of Swing”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Private Investigations” and “Money for Nothing” show Mark Knopfler’s distinctive guitar playing and understated songwriting at their best. The collection moves easily between rock, blues and quieter, more atmospheric material. A very solid overview of Dire Straits and an easy record to return to.
