Tom Waits - Los Angeles July 23rd 1974 (marble vinyl)
A fascinating snapshot of Tom Waits right at the start of his career. Recorded for KPFK’s Folkscene in Los Angeles on 23 July 1974, it catches him between his first two albums, already sounding unmistakably like Waits. The stripped-back setting suits songs such as “Better Off Without a Wife”, “Drunk on the Moon”, “San Diego Serenade” and “Fumblin’ with the Blues”. Intimate, smoky and wonderfully unpolished, it feels less like a concert than being allowed into the room with him.
