The Cure - Disintegration (2xLP, Gatefold)

The Cure’s Disintegration from 1989 is the band at their most atmospheric, emotional and complete. Robert Smith wraps songs of love, loss and ageing in layers of shimmering guitar, keyboards and slow-burning rhythm, creating a sound that is both huge and deeply intimate. “Pictures of You”, “Lovesong”, “Fascination Street” and the title track are career highlights. Beautifully melancholic without becoming heavy-handed, Disintegration remains one of the defining alternative rock albums of the late 1980s.
