The Cure - Disintegration (2LP)

The Cure’s Disintegration from 1989 is the band at their most expansive, atmospheric and emotionally devastating. Robert Smith surrounds songs of love, loss and ageing with sweeping keyboards, chiming guitars and huge, slow-burning arrangements. “Pictures of You”, “Lovesong”, “Fascination Street” and the title track remain among their finest recordings. Despite its melancholy, the album is rich, melodic and beautifully produced rather than simply bleak. A defining alternative rock record and one of the strongest albums in The Cure’s catalogue.
