She & Him - Volume Two (sky blue vinyl)

She & Him’s Volume Two (2010) is exactly what Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward do best: warm, slightly nostalgic pop that sounds simple until you notice how carefully everything is put together. “In the Sun”, “Thieves” and “Don’t Look Back” are the standouts, with lovely harmonies throughout. This limited 2023 Merge Records reissue puts the album on sky-blue vinyl for the first time. Breezy and charming on the surface, but there’s enough melancholy underneath to keep it interesting.
