Patrice Rushen - Straight From The Heart (2LP)

Patrice Rushen’s Straight from the Heart from 1982 is a smooth mix of soul, funk, jazz and polished R&B, with just enough groove to keep things moving without ever sounding overworked. “Forget Me Nots” is the obvious classic, but the album has plenty more depth in tracks like “Remind Me” and “Where There Is Love”. Rushen’s keyboard work and relaxed vocals give the record its character. Warm, sophisticated and very easy to live with, this is early-1980s soul done properly.
