Nirvana - Bleach (US)

Nirvana’s Bleach from 1989 captures the band before worldwide fame, sounding heavier, dirtier and more rooted in Seattle’s underground scene than the records that followed. Recorded cheaply for Sub Pop, it mixes sludgy riffs, punk aggression and Kurt Cobain’s emerging melodic instincts on tracks such as “About a Girl”, “Blew” and “School”. The production is rough but suits the material perfectly. Bleach is less polished than Nevermind, but its raw energy and sense of discovery make it essential Nirvana.
