Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds announced themselves with considerable menace on From Her to Eternity in 1984. Emerging from the wreckage of The Birthday Party, Cave sounds raw, theatrical and completely possessed, backed by music built from pounding piano, jagged guitar and uneasy space. The title track is still astonishing, while “Saint Huck” and their haunting take on “In the Ghetto” show the range already taking shape. Dark, confrontational and uncompromising, this is where the Bad Seeds story truly begins.
