Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads (2LP)

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Murder Ballads from 1996 turns the old folk tradition of songs about death, violence and doomed love into one of their most theatrical records. “Where the Wild Roses Grow” with Kylie Minogue became an unlikely hit, while “Henry Lee” with PJ Harvey and the sprawling “O’Malley’s Bar” show the album’s darker extremes. It is grim, witty and often strangely beautiful, with Cave balancing black humour and genuine menace. A distinctive, highly memorable entry in the Bad Seeds catalogue.
