Malombo Jazz Makers - Malombo Jazz

Malombo Jazz Makers’ Malompo Jazz is a beautiful piece of South African jazz history, originally recorded in 1966 and finally given a proper international vinyl reissue in 2023 by Strut. Julian Bahula, Abbey Cindi and Lucky Ranku blend jazz with traditional African rhythms in a way that still sounds fresh and completely their own. “Emakhaya”, “Jikeleza” and “Abbey’s Mood” are standouts. Spacious, rhythmic and full of character, this is a lovely rediscovery and a very worthwhile record to own.
