Live - Mental Jewelry

Live’s Mental Jewelry from 1991 is a raw, energetic debut that already has plenty of the intensity the band would become known for. “Pain Lies on the Riverside”, “Operation Spirit” and “Beauty of Gray” are standouts, with Ed Kowalczyk’s urgent vocals sitting over tight guitars and a very early-90s alternative rock sound. It is less polished than the albums that followed, but that works in its favour. A strong starting point for Live, with plenty of drive and character.
