Fields of the Nephilim’s Dawnrazor from 1987 is a dark, atmospheric mix of gothic rock, post-punk and western imagery, with Carl McCoy’s deep vocals giving the album its unmistakable character. “Preacher Man”, “Power” and the title track are standouts, but the record works best as a full listen, with its heavy basslines, echoing guitars and brooding mood. It is dramatic without becoming overdone. A strong goth classic and a great record to own if you like things a little darker.
