10,000 Maniacs - Blind Man's Zoo (SA)
Blind Man’s Zoo (1989) is a darker, more serious follow-up to In My Tribe, with Natalie Merchant increasingly focused on social and political themes. Produced by Peter Asher, it still has that unmistakable 10,000 Maniacs mix of jangly guitars, thoughtful lyrics and Merchant’s wonderfully distinctive voice. “Trouble Me”, “Eat for Two” and “You Happy Puppet” are the obvious standouts, but the whole album rewards repeated listening. Perhaps not quite their best record, but certainly one of their most interesting.
